Mobile tariffs in Kazakhstan in 2026 have increased by 15–20%. The reason is the rise in VAT, inflation and operators' costs. Before travelling abroad, it is important not only to choose a home tariff, but also to understand roaming. One wrong package — and the bill can multiply several times.

We have broken everything down: which operators are more profitable, which packages really work and how to prepare so you don't overpay.

Kcell / Activ — good coverage across the country, especially in cities. Strong in international roaming (186 countries). Pros: stable internet, convenient app, special offers with Halyk Bank cards (free Premium365 roaming). Cons: slightly more expensive in the mid-segment.

Beeline — wide coverage, strong family tariffs and subscriptions. Pros: convenient "SuperVisa" packages, ability to exchange minutes for gigabytes. Cons: after the 2026 price increase, some archived tariffs have become less profitable.

Tele2 / Altel — one holding (Kazakhtelecom), identical roaming packages. Pros: the most generous gigabyte volumes in roaming, ability to exchange minutes for GB. Cons: in Russia, internet and SMS may not work due to restrictions of Russian operators — calls always work.

IZI — virtual operator on the Beeline network. Pros: low prices, bonuses for music and movies, gigabytes don't burn out quickly. Ideal for those who make few calls.

The choice depends on how you use your phone.

Lots of calls → Tele2/Altel or Beeline: large minute packages, often with unlimited calls within the network.

Lots of internet → Kcell or Beeline with unlimited. After the main package, speed drops, but messengers and maps continue to work.

Only messengers → IZI or social tariffs from Activ/Altel — minimum subscription fee, traffic on messengers is not consumed.

Unlimited vs package tariff: unlimited is convenient if you are constantly online. A package tariff is more profitable if traffic is predictable — leftovers can often be exchanged or carried over to the next month.

Roaming connects automatically in most cases — but without a package, 1 MB can cost 99–200+ tenge. Always activate a package in advance.

• Mini — 7 days, 1.5 GB + 10 min → 3,590 ₸

Kcell — "Around the World" packages (different volumes for 3–365 days) and "Roaming Light". There are free premium packages with Halyk Bank World Elite / Imperial cards (up to 20 GB + 200 min for 365 days). Works in 186 countries.

Beeline — "SuperVisa M" and similar: 3 GB in CIS + 1 GB abroad + 30 min → from 5,990 ₸ / 30 days. There are daily options and "Easy Roaming+".

When a local SIM is more profitable: a trip of 7–10 days to a popular country (Turkey, Georgia, UAE, Thailand) — almost always a local eSIM or physical SIM is cheaper than roaming. For 1–5 days — your operator's package is more profitable.

Kcell, Beeline and Tele2 support eSIM. Buy a virtual SIM from Airalo, Holafly or a local operator directly on your phone — activation takes about 5 minutes.

The main advantage: eSIM works in parallel with your Kazakh SIM. Banking SMS and calls via the Kazakh number continue to work, while internet goes through the cheap local tariff.

Downside — not all phones support eSIM. Check in your device settings (Cellular or Mobile Network section) before the trip.

1. 3–7 days before the trip, go to the operator's app → "Roaming" section → activate the required package.
2. In phone settings, enable "Data Roaming" (Android: Mobile Network → Data Roaming; iOS: Cellular → Cellular Data Options → Data Roaming).
3. Set APN "internet" if it didn't pull automatically.
4. Restart the phone after landing at the destination airport.
5. Download offline maps in advance: 2GIS, Maps.me or Google Maps offline.
6. Set a mobile traffic limit in your phone settings.
7. Save your operator's support number and bank contacts.
8. Check your balance before departure — there should be enough for the package plus a reserve of 2,000–3,000 ₸.

• Use Wi-Fi in hotels, cafés and airports — most provide free access.
• Calls and video via WhatsApp or Telegram when connected to Wi-Fi do not consume mobile traffic.
• Use VPN only via Wi-Fi — in roaming it is an additional traffic expense.
• Disable automatic app updates on mobile network — update only via Wi-Fi.
• Buy eSIM for 30+ days if you are going for a long time — it is almost always cheaper than daily roaming packages.
• Download tickets, hotel bookings and route maps in offline mode in advance.

• Did not disable the old roaming package — it is charged daily even after you return.
• Turned on data without a package — megabytes fly at the standard rate of 99–200+ tenge per MB.
• Did not restart the phone — the network does not connect or works unstably.
• Forgot to check the package balance in the app.
• Did not disable automatic app updates.

Solution: always check everything through the operator's apps Janymda (Tele2/Altel), My Kcell or My Beeline — before the trip and immediately after returning. It is better to disable roaming manually through the app or USSD command: for Kcell — *145*1*2#, for Tele2 — *125*1#.
