A student ID in your pocket is a real way to save thousands of tenge every month. Not all promotions are loudly advertised, but many work reliably: from 33% on trains to 30% in your favorite café on Tuesdays. The main thing is to know where to go and what documents to show.

Student ID and university certificate

The main document is your regular student ID or a certificate from your place of study (with the university/college seal and validity period). Most Kazakh establishments accept exactly these. An electronic QR code from the university app also often works.

International ISIC card: is it worth getting?

ISIC is a plastic or virtual card that confirms student status worldwide and provides additional discounts.

• Cost — about 3500 tenge (check current channels of ISIC Kazakhstan).
• Issued with a student ID, ID card and 3×4 photo.
• Valid for 1 year.
• Pros: discounts in 130+ countries + convenient app with a map of offers.
• Cons: fewer partners in Kazakhstan than abroad, so it pays off if you travel often or use international services.

Public transport in Almaty, Astana and other cities

In Almaty, Astana, Shymkent and other major cities, students get a 50% discount. You apply for a discounted transport card (issuance cost ~1000–1200 tenge) and provide a university certificate. In Almaty the “Aimaq” card is used, in Astana a similar system applies. A monthly student pass is significantly cheaper than the regular one.

Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ): KETTІK33 card

KETTІK33 youth card for ages 15–25:
- 33% on upper berths in compartment cars and all seated cars.
- Card cost — 3000 tenge, valid for 1 year.
- Issued only in person at railway ticket offices.
- Important: not valid during peak periods (summer, March 20–29, December 25–30).
