Taxi and Carsharing in Kazakhstan: Which is Better and How to Save in 2026

In Kazakhstan there are two main taxi players — Yandex Go and inDriver, while carsharing is currently only available in Almaty (Anytime). We compared prices, convenience and hidden costs so you don't overpay. Read this and start saving today.

You've just left the airport in Almaty or Astana, it's raining, and the price in the app has jumped by one and a half times. Sound familiar? Every month Kazakhs spend 15 to 40 thousand tenge on taxis and car rental. We have compiled the current picture as of April 2026: which services actually work, where it's cheaper and how not to overpay.

Yandex Go is the most popular service in Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, Aktobe and most major cities. Fixed price when ordering, but with a surge pricing multiplier: during peak hours, rain, snow or holidays the price increases.

Pros: fast car matching, many tariffs (Economy, Comfort, Comfort+, Child, Cargo), payment by card or cash, reliable support.
Cons: more expensive than others during peak hours.

inDriver is Yandex's main competitor. It operates almost everywhere Yandex Go is available. The main difference is the auction: you set your own price, and the driver accepts or negotiates.

Pros: often 12–25% cheaper than Yandex (according to an independent study from March 2026, average receipt 942 tenge vs 1,134 tenge for Yandex). Especially profitable during peak hours and for long trips.
Cons: sometimes you have to wait longer until a driver accepts your price.

Other services:
• Uber — works but prices are closer to Yandex.
• Aparu and Region Taxi — regional players, sometimes cheaper in their cities.
• Bolt — launched scooters in Almaty, but full taxi service has not yet launched as of April 2026. Watch for news.

Full minute-by-minute carsharing is currently only available in Almaty — the Anytime service. In Astana, Shymkent, Aktobe and the regions there is no carsharing — only classic daily car rental.

How Anytime works:
1. Download the app and register (driving licence from 18 years old + ID).
2. Find the nearest car on the map.
3. Unlock it through the app and drive.

Tariff is per minute (from ~50–80 tenge/min depending on class and demand) + hourly and daily packages. Fuel, insurance, washing and parking in permitted zones are already included in the price. Important: payment continues until you park and close the car through the app.

Yandex Go:

inDriver:

Anytime (carsharing, only Almaty):
• Cost: from 50–80 ₸/min
• Coverage: only Almaty
• Pickup speed: you pick it up yourself
• Peak hours / airport: no surge pricing
• Hidden costs: fines for damage, dirt, incorrect parking
• Convenience for beginners: you need to be able to drive

Promo codes mostly work for new users or via referral links.

How to use:
1. At registration or before ordering, enter the code in the special field.
2. Most often they give 15–50% off the first trip or a fixed 2,000–3,000 ₸ discount.

Important: promo codes do not work on already increased tariffs (surge pricing) and may have a minimum order amount. Always check validity — they expire quickly.

Taxi is more profitable if:
• short trip around the city;
• you don't want to or cannot drive;
• bad weather;
• you need a child seat or cargo taxi;
• you're going to the airport with luggage.

Carsharing is more profitable (in Almaty) if:
• you need a car for 2–8 hours (errands, shopping, trip out of town);
• you want complete freedom without a driver;
• you travel frequently to the centre and are ready to park yourself.

• Check the price in both apps at the same time before every order.
• At the airport: don't take the first car at the exit — go down to the arrivals level or the official taxi stand, or order inDriver at a reasonable price.
• On holidays and in bad weather: order in advance or use inDriver (lower surge pricing there).
• In Yandex choose the "Comfort" tariff only if you need a more spacious interior — the price difference is small, but the car will arrive faster.
• Avoid "private drivers" at the airport exit — they are always more expensive than any app.

Taxi (Yandex Go and inDriver):
• Surge pricing in Yandex Go — can increase the price by 50–100%.
• Cancelling an order after 5–7 minutes of waiting — fine.
• In inDriver a too-low bid — longer wait or no drivers.

Carsharing Anytime:
• Fine for leaving the car dirty.
• Fine for smoking in the car — 5,000–10,000 ₸.
• Fine for parking in a non-permitted zone.
• Payment continues until you close the car through the app.
• Damage is recorded by camera when unlocking — photograph the car's condition before starting the trip.

In Yandex Go:
• Economy — cheapest city trips.
• Comfort — quieter, cleaner, more space.
• Comfort+ — executive cars.
• Child — with child seat (extra charge).
• Cargo — for moves and large purchases.

In inDriver there is only one tariff — you decide how much you are willing to pay. Start 10–15% below the Yandex average price — drivers often agree.

In Anytime: choose car class (economy / comfort) and package (per minute or hourly). Hourly packages are always cheaper if the trip is longer than 40–50 minutes.

1. Immediately give a low rating in the app and write a comment describing the problem.
2. For a refund: open the support chat — Yandex Go and inDriver support works 24/7.
3. In case of serious violations (rudeness, deliberate detour) — take screenshots of the route and contact support. Usually 50–100% of the trip cost is refunded.
4. In Anytime carsharing: immediately photograph any damage and record it in the app before ending the rental — otherwise responsibility may be placed on you.

2. Before every order open both taxi apps and compare prices — it takes 10 seconds.
3. For the first trip activate a new-user promo code — look in the "Promotions" section or via a referral link.
4. During peak hours offer 10–15% below the current Yandex price in inDriver — drivers often accept.
5. In Almaty for trips longer than 2 hours take Anytime with an hourly package — it will be cheaper than several taxi rides.
6. Pay by card — sometimes you get extra bonuses or cashback.
7. Subscribe to the Yandex Go and inDriver Kazakhstan Telegram channels — they regularly post promo codes and promotions.

• Before your first trip carefully read the parking rules in the Anytime app — violations are automatically recorded.
• Don't leave the car with low fuel — you will be fined.
• Photograph the car's condition before and after the trip — this protects you in disputed situations.
• Do not smoke in the car: fine plus car wash at your expense.
